A long time ago in a galaxy far,
far away……. OOPS, that’s a whole other story, my bad. At any rate if
you have come here, you are no doubt curious to learn how the MINISTERS
OF DEATH, came to be. Well here it is folks our clan biography.
Back in March of 98', I, Mark or as you HL zombies know me, [MOD]F@#$ERR!!!!!!,
was talking to a good friend of mine named David Miller, owner of Megabyte
Computers. David was telling me about this demo he had downloaded from
Sierra, and how cool, bloody, and violent it was. Of course I just had
to have the link and was soon downloading it myself. The name of the
game, we all know it so well was of course HALF LIFE. It wasn’t long
after I was playing the game that my appetite for it became insatiable.
I longed for the final release and the days turned into weeks the weeks
into months until finally it happened. I purchased my very first copy
of the full release of Sierra’s game of the year, version 1005. I quickly
learned why they called it Half Life, because it wasn’t long before
my relationship and business began to fall apart. The game was consuming
half of my life!!!!!!. I had to beat it I couldn’t put it down, when
would I find the end. Almost 3 weeks later I found it. The little meeting
with the mystery man in the suit aboard the space traveling subway car
turned out to be my relief. Now I could go back to my life and pick
up where I left off. Wrong!!!! That very same week I had completed the
game, my good friend David was once again engaged in a conversation
with me about how he had fragged the hell out of some people over on
the east coast. I didn’t understand at first. You see I had been so
consumed by the game itself I hadn’t even noticed or learned that this
game could be played on line against other junkies like myself. Well
that was it, now I could put my skills to the test against real human
beings. Once again my life was thrown into turmoil and my relationship
and business suffered the wrath addiction of Half Life. Fortunately,
My girlfriend at the time who is now my wife, loved me more than I loved
the game and she put up with my incisive playing habits till I finally
got the damn thing out of my system. Mind you not without many a knock
down drag out arguments and conflicts. I used to say to her don’t worry
honey some day I’ll get paid to play this thing, he he. Well I never
really did get it out of my system but I did manage to find a harmonious
balance between life and Half Life. In my later days spent playing,
I began to notice the opposition having this strange prefix in front
of their names. It was like a bracketed call sign and I soon learned
what we all know, that this was in fact, indication to belonging to
a clan. Now I wanted to be a clansmen, but how, ask, be asked, both.
I tried both and experimented with several clans out there but none
seemed up to standard. Disorganization, dissention, and inconsistency
among other things kept me from ever making a final commitment to any
of the clans I played with. What now. Well needless to say that when
I started playing this game I wasn’t alone I had gotten several of my
friends hooked on it too. My buddy Todd a Time Warner Roadrunner technician,
Drew who owned a landscape business, and Chris who owned a major health
food store. Why couldn’t I start my own clan? What the hell everyone
else and their mothers uncle was doing it why couldn’t we. Well we did
I called it “MOD”. I didn’t even have something that the “MOD” stood
for at the time I just called it MOD, what the hell, I figured we could
find something to go along with it. We started to play and found that
a lot of the servers out there were either very unreliable or just plain
lame as a result of personal vendettas versus our scores. It got to
be very frustrating trying to get ourselves all into the same server
not having control over them to make room. That was the next step. We
still didn’t even know what MOD stood for but we new we had to get a
server up. I had a 4 user in house network at the time and a cable modem
so I was the likely candidate to host. It wasn’t long before the 1st
server was running and it was called STARGATE 1971. Hell Chris, and
Drew were still on dial up connections at the time but we all loved
to play that server. The name actually was derived from the movie STARGATE
and the number reflective of my birth year. It was understood that any
MOD’s who wanted to put up a server would name it STARGATE and their
birth year. We were up and running and life was grand all the power
to change levels and make room on the server to accommodate ourselves.
It wasn’t long though before everyone wanted to know what MOD stood
for. Well we didn’t have an answer and we needed one quick. Here’s how
it came about. In the early stages of STARGATE 1971 we used to play
mostly GASWORKS with low gravity it was great but being that it was
regular HL we used to have a hell of a time determining who was who
amongst ourselves amidst the entire killing game. How could we keep
from killing our fellow clansmen? Skins!!!!! That’s how we searched
quite a few and came up with the one we liked best, partly because Drew
said it looked like me and it was sort of controversial. Rev_ed came
to be our clan skin. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, it
is a priest wearing sunglasses and a go “T”, all dressed in black. This
was definitely us. So as the story goes we started throwing clan names
around, “mongrels of death, masters of destruction, minion of doom”,
so on and so on the Todd nailed it right on the head though. He said
well we look like priests, why not something related, like MINISTERS
OF DEATH. There was nothing to consider, that was it, done deal, and
of course what better map to make our home map than MINISTRY.bsp it
all came together in a flash. So here we were the two founders first
myself and Chris, who you all know as [MOD]Vita (see the picture below).

F@#$err!!!!!! .......Vita
Then of course Drew, who you all now as FATALITY makes up our trio of
the three musketeers that we refer to ourselves as quite often

Fatality..
F@#$err!!!!!! Vita
Now as far as Todd goes
some of you may have seen him every now and then he goes by [MOD]KillWhitey
(and no he's not African American). He was there from the beginning
but we rarely ever see him anymore, he is sort of a recluse in the clan
and makes cameo appearances once in a while but none the less make no
mistake, where ever he is he knows what’s happening and was key in developing
what MOD stood for, and was one of the original four members.
A lot has happened in the almost a 3 year history of this clan. I have
seen many come and a few go. I have yet to find anyone who has ever
left our clan, that didn’t regret it later and try to come back, but
that is a firm rule. Once you leave MOD there is no coming back! If
I can offer any advice to getting into our clan it would be: don’t’
suck up, have respect, never give up, play by the rules, have really
thick skin, and don’t act your age if you are 13. Most of us are older
grown men with careers and families; we don’t care for wasted ammunition
or immature knifing of one another. We hate whiners and can’t stand
it even more if you are loud when we are trying to be quiet and sneaky.
This might be a game but we treat like real life covert tactics, so
we expect you to act as though every bullet counts. Be serious, be cautious
and be aggressive all at the same time, this is what makes a MOD.
We have come a long way since the early days, I have been privileged
as a leader to welcome members like Putz, Deathmaker, Bedlam, Holmes
and many others, it is their spirit that keeps us strong. We have made
many changes this recent year including our T1 server which we now call
STARGATE 2000 due to the year of it’s birth and things like this web
page courtesy of Bedlam and, cobr@ Maddness, which I should mention
is our sub clan. Anyone who wants to be a MOD must first be a cobr@.
It has not been easy, in fact it has been quite hairy at times….
